After four years of growth, the Portuguese crane market fell -X% to X dollars in 2020. During the period under review, total consumption from 2007 to 2020 showed measurable growth: its value fell at an average annual rate of -X% over the past thirteen years. However, the trend pattern indicated that some significant fluctuations were recorded throughout the analysis period. According to 2020 data, consumption increased by +X% compared to the 2015 index. The most significant growth rate occurred in 2013, when the market value increased by X% over the previous year. During the period under review, the market topped out at $X in 2019 before falling the following year.

In value terms, crane production in 2020 fell to an estimated $X at export prices. Overall, production shrank slightly. In terms of value, crane exports expanded slightly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continued to show a marked pullback. The most significant growth rate occurred in 2011, which was an X% increase compared to the previous year. During the reporting period, exports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports have been at lower levels.

France (X units) is the main destination for Portuguese crane exports, accounting for X% of total exports. In addition, more than twice as many cranes were exported to France as to Germany (X units), the second main destination. Third in this ranking is Spain (X units) with an X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of shipments to France totaled -X%. Exports to other major destinations recorded the following average annual export growth rates: Germany (-X% per annum) and Spain (-X% per annum).

Spain (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Austria (X units) are the main suppliers of crane imports to Portugal, together accounting for X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, among the major suppliers, the Netherlands achieved the most significant growth rate in purchasing, while the other leaders experienced more modest growth rates in imports.

Portugal’s largest crane suppliers by value are Spain ($X), Netherlands ($X) and Austria ($X), with X% of total imports.

In terms of major suppliers, the Netherlands experienced the highest growth in import value during the period under review, while other leaders saw more modest growth in purchases.
Statistics of various crane suppliers in Portugal
Spain ($15 million), the Netherlands ($13 million) and Austria ($6 million) were Portugal’s largest crane suppliers by value, together accounting for 67% of total imports.

In value terms, France ($33 million) remains the main foreign market for Portuguese crane exports, accounting for 41% of total exports. In second place is Germany ($13 million) with 15% of total exports. It is followed by Spain with a share of 9.7%.

The average export price of cranes in 2020 was US$63,321 per unit, up 9.1% from the previous year.

The average import price of cranes in 2020 was US$76,477 per unit, down -7.5% from the previous year.
